Whoa, Momma!

She's my little baby

25

July

Alessandra In two days, she'll be 3 years old. A month after that, she'll start preschool. Each day, she shows her age and independence in a new way. And yet, in all conversations and references, she's "the baby." "The baby woke me up last night." "Honey, is the baby okay?" "Sorry, have to go home and put the baby to bed."

The other day a friend asked, "Whose baby? Your brother's?" Uh, no. . . that would be my baby, the not so tiny, but totally huggable, squeezable, attached-to-me little girl that I can't stop calling "the baby."

Help! I've been telling myself I need to break the cycle when she turns 3, kind of like I need to get on her about putting two fingers in her mouth, upside down, to comfort herself. (See photo!) But her slightly pudgy body tugs on my heart whenever I see her, because it's way more cuddly than her 8-year-old sister's. And instinctively when I think of her, she is "my baby." I need advice, help, comfort, Mommas, so please pour it on.
