Tampa playground opens today at Al Lopez Park
Looking for a cool playground now that the weather is a little cooler? Check out the new playground at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N Himes Ave., which will have its opening celebration at 3:30 p.m. today in Tampa.
Children in the city's After-School Activity Program helped to design the playground, which features an Evos Play Structure -- a "gyroscopic" play system for children of all ages; an accessible Playshaper play structure for younger and/or limited ability children; two family-friendly shaded structures with picnic tables; several climbing structures, including the Mobius curvy climber, the Spacenet climbing and a rock climber.
The highlight feature of the playground will be the Talking Tot Turf, in which a hopscotch and piano keyboard are embedded into the playground surface. When a child steps on the designs, it will seem as though sounds are being emitted from the area where the child is playing. The piano keyboard sounds will coincide with the keys on an actual keyboard -- just think Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia in Big. The hopscotch counts as the child plays.
This sounds like a lot of fun. I can imagine many playgroup hours spent there. Go here for more information on the park and the opening.
