Tampa's Moffitt Cancer Center among top 100 companies for working parents
Each year "Working Mother" magazine releases its annual list of the 100 most family-friendly companies in the U.S. Some big names that always seem to make the cut include American Express, Bank of America and Verizon. The companies are singled out for such features as telecommuting, flex time, parental leave (both maternal and paternal), adoption leave time and providing backup child care -- now that's an awesome feature! You can see the best of the best in this top 10 list.
Locally, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa made the grade for the first time, the magazine said, for allowing employees flexible working hours, expanding its child care center and giving new moms 16 weeks off (four paid) with a guarantee of getting their job back. They also give pregnant women two weeks of paid leave before the baby comes. Trust me, in those two weeks, there is no relaxing.
Seeing the benefits other companies offer is always interesting and a great way to compare what your company offers. And while there are still 100 companies listed, the magazine notes that there have been many cutbacks of the very benefits "Working Mother" is honoring. But James Rishwain, firm chair at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, one of this year’s Top 10 companies, tells the mag, “It is particularly important to continue enhancing benefits precisely when families are getting squeezed the hardest.”
We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
