Tax holiday will make school days (daze) a little easier

mom_schoolsupplies1.jpgLike everyone else in Florida, we are happy that the tax-free weekend is beginning and just before the school year starts for most kids in the bay area. And if you've been waiting for this weekend to get your shopping done, there are some deals out there for you.

Before you go shopping, take a look at these ideas on how to get good deals from Ivan Penn's Consumer's Edge column. Thinking in a different way about getting your kids' supplies is always a good thing. My friend Sharon even listed some suggestions here that will help as you make your way down the list.

But on to the deals. Office Depot isn't just for big office supplies. I like to shop there for folders, paper and composition notebooks and they have a good sale on all those right now. But wait, there's more:

It's funny to shop at Publix for school items but while looking for inexpensive notebook dividers, I couldn't find them anywhere else but here. (Note the use of the term inexpensive -- I found them elsewhere but for $3-$4! Uh, no way!) But this week, the supermarket has all kinds of school deals that might be worth a look. When you go to the online weekly ad, click on pages 12-13 for the school deals. (The pages might vary a little depending on your area.) And check other supermarkets as well to see if they have school supplies.

There aren't a lot of Office Max stores in the bay area but their online site promises to offer tax-free deals online as well as in the stores. And Staples also has plenty of good deals from notebook paper for 1-cent (with a $5 minimum order) to free highlighters (after a mail-in or online rebate). And the store also has a Teacher Appreciation Day with special savings for teachers coming up on Saturday at most bay area stores.

And I didn't even touch on clothing deals. But you can find some deals we've rounded up here.

I know I must have missed some store that has great deals but I just haven't been to. Add it to our comments and help others grab the great deals too. And have a happy tax-free shopping weekend.
