Teacher Appreciation Week is coming
It's next week, in fact. Within that week are special days to remember the people who care for our children: National Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday, May 5, and Child Care Provider Day is Friday, May 8.
I've taken surveys on what teachers and day care workers like to have for appreciation week, and hands down the favorite item to receive is a handwritten note from parents expressing their appreciation. It tops every other gift or treat suggestion. (The bottom of the list, by the way, is any Hallmark "teacher" gift like an apple-decorated coffee cup. Just think -- would you want it?) If you insist on getting a gift, check out this list we did at Christmas time that a lot of teachers said was right on target (or Target, if you get my drift) and didn't cost a lot of money.
But definitely go with a heartfelt card or personal note. It's fitting that they put this week so close to Mother's Day because we just couldn't do any of this without them. I get kind of emotional about the day care providers and teachers my kids have had. I tell them in the card that they have no idea the relief I have because they are such a good partner in helping me raise great kids. Put in some examples of things your child went through this year so they know you noticed.
The first one to make the teacher cry wins!
