Tony Dungy writes a book for kids
UPDATE: Because of the expected crowd, Barnes and Noble store managers tell me they will be handing out wrist bands starting at noon for the 4 p.m. signing. If you don't have a wrist band, you may not be able to get in the store.
I will be interviewing Dungy later today and will report back here on his new children's book, "You Can Do It!," which is set to hit bookstores on Tuesday. The former Bucs coach (and, oh yeah, Super Bowl winner for the Indianapolis Colts) will be in town Friday signing the book at the Barnes & Noble in Carrollwood, 11802 N Dale Mabry in Tampa, from 4 to 7 p.m. (He then heads to Orlando the following week for the International Christian Retail Show and he'll be signing books Monday, July 14, at the Family Christian Bookstore, 3700 U.S. 98 N in Lakeland from 1 to 3 p.m.)
If his Tampa appearance is anything like the last time he signed books here, expect to fight the crowds to get near the popular football icon. His memoir, "Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices and Priorities of a Winning Life," topped the bestseller list in 2007 and he's still incredibly popular in the Tampa Bay area. The publishers say the book is about "young Tony" and his siblings who are encouraged to dream big and listen to their mother's mantra, "You can do it and you will."
