Toys R Us offers discounts when you trade in your old cribs, high chairs, more

Mommas, after all the talk about cash for clunkers, it's about time a deal really came along that we can 3217871-1524x2286 get  behind. Starting Friday, Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores nationwide will take returns of used cribs, car seats, bassinets, strollers, travel systems, play yards and high chairs regardless of age or where they were purchased. In exchange for the old baby products, TRU will give customers a 20 percent discount on any new item in the categories listed from 16 manufacturers including Graco, Eddie Bauer, Evenflo, Jeep and Safety 1st. There also is no limit on how many items you can trade in.

The toy giant said it is launching the program to "spotlight potentially unsafe baby products" that are still being sold throughout the country. The "Great Trade-In" event will continue through Sept. 20 at all TRU and Babies R Us locations throughout the country. "It can be difficult for consumers to determine whether used baby products are safe," the company said in a news release. "Because consumers often do not know the history of a second-hand baby product, leading safety organizations such as Safe Kids USA recommend not purchasing used car seats, for example. Additionally, the CPSC advocates not purchasing used items that have a history of safety problems, including cribs, play yards and bassinets."

Now I know what to do with that old crib that's just crowding up my garage.
