UPDATE: A spokesman for Chris Brown said Wednesday that the singer is removing himself from consideration for any Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. The statement from the spokeman says: “Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated. While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so.”

UPDATE: A group of moms who want Nickelodeon to remove Chris Brown and Rihanna from the Kids' Choice Awards ballots have started an online petition to get the hip hop artists off the kid- and tween-friendly network's poll. So far, about 3,000 people have signed the petition. But Nickelodeon, which will air the award show March 28, says the ballot will stand: "The kids who vote will ultimately decide who wins in the category," Nick said in a statement Tuesday. Meanwhile, it appears the Rihanna and Brown are recording together.

Although he was just arraigned on two felony charges involving his alleged run-in with Mom_chrisrhianna (then/now) girlfriend Rihanna, a post on a My Space page that is said to be from singer Chris Brown asks fans to vote for him in the categories of Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song in the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2009.

Brown won the singer category last year. And this year, he is actually up against Rihanna in the fave song category. But these nominations were made just days before the February altercation and before we all got a chance to check out the affidavit of what Brown allegedly did to Rihanna.

I'm all for innocent until proven guilty, and Brown has apologized for what happened. Still, just because you have talent, doesn't mean you're a role model. And Mommas, if those allegations are true, the last thing you want your kids to do is vote for Chris Brown. But you know some of them will.

Mom_pussycatdolls You might think Nick executives would be worried about what might happen if Brown wins and gets up to give an acceptance speech. But in a contest where teen mom Jamie Lynn Spears' Zoey 101 is nominated for Best TV Show and the ex-burlesque group Pussycat Dolls are up for Best Music Group, maybe the folks at Nickelodeon don't really care about role models.
