Mom_disneyvols1 UPDATE: Just as we were updating you on the Give a Day Get a Diwney Day program, Disney says it has reached its goal and the program has ended. Wow, when Disney says jump, we all say how high!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember when we told you a while back that if you were planning on taking advantage of Disney’s Give a Day Get a Disney Day initiative that you’d better hurry? Well, don’t wait much longer.

In the first six weeks of the program, Disney was already halfway to its goal of inspiring 1 million volunteers this year as over 600,000 people have contributed to their communities and received a theme park ticket in exchange for their efforts.

Disney recently honored some of those volunteers by inviting more than 350 families from all over the country, Puerto Rico and Canada to share in a special day at Epcot. Disney executives along with Michelle Nunn, CEO of the HandsOn Network honored their accomplishments with a ceremony, and Ty Pennington of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover led the big reveal of the world’s largest canned food structure (certified by Guinness). Volunteers then dismantled and boxed up the cans which were then donated to local food banks in Orlando, Miami and central Georgia. Of the over 115,000 individual cans used in shaping the faces of Donald, Goofy, Pluto and Mickey, an estimated 70,000 meals will be provided for those in need.

The day ended with a surprise taping of the Food Network’s Dinner: Impossible and celebrity chef Robert Irvine served up Disney Princess-inspired dishes for guests as they enjoyed a private concert with Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas.

The episode is slated to air in April.
