Update: Nestle Refrigerated Cookie Dough back on shelves (hurray!)



Mom_nestledough Good news, Mommas! Just in time for back-to-school lunch box treats, Nestle Toll House Refrigerated Cookie Dough is back on store shelves. The dough was voluntarily pulled from the stores back in June after a sample was found to have E.coli contamination.

But tests by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, working with the Centers for Disease Control, found that it wasn't even the same strain of E. coli that had made people sick.

Nestle has now produced a new batch that has been tested and found to be safe. I was so happy to see the bright yellow package back in my neighborhood grocery -- and so were my kids.

Says the FDA: "These newly made products are not part of the ongoing recall and are not associated with any illness outbreaks or known contamination. Consumers can identify the newly made products by looking for labels with shields that say 'New Batch' on them; these batches are not part of the current recall." 

As I wrote previously, the problem here is that people were eating it raw. That's how they got sick. And that's a no-no, folks. There was even a warning about it on the old packages.

On the new package is a warning that says in all capital letters, "REMINDER: DO NOT CONSUME RAW COOKIE DOUGH." I think they really want to get the point across this time. Let's hope -- for the sake of all us hardworking Mommas who need a little shortcut in the kitchen -- that people listen.
