What not to do while breastfeeding

The troubles of a North Dakota mother made national news this week when 26-year-old Stacey Anvarinia of Grand Forks pleaded guilty to child neglect after she was found breastfeeding while intoxicated. The mother will be sentenced on a "Class C felony charge" in August.

Anvarinia and other mothers in the news, through their notoriety, offer a short list of what not to do while breastfeeding:

1) Do not breastfeed while drunk, as demonstrated above. explored the drinking-while-nursing issue and points toward either not drinking at all or drinking in moderation.

2) Do not breastfeed while driving, as an Ohio mom reminded us in March.

3) Do not breastfeed while riding in the passenger seat, as demonstrated by a family in Tampa earlier this month, when the baby was ejected from the vehicle.

And while we're at it, you may want to 4) Avoid certain foods, 5) Avoid certain drugs, and 6) Try not to smoke.

This list will probably get longer.
