Whoa, Momma!

Who are you calling Grandma?

granny.jpgI had to laugh at this story on Baby Boomers very much disliking the term "Grandma" because, well, it sounds old. Goldie Hawn's charges call her Glam-Ma, which I do kind of like. According to the story:

Resistant to being called anything that makes them sound old, baby boomer grandparents have taken to accepting toddlers' neologisms and ethnic variations or, better yet, naming themselves. ...

"My wife and I were somewhat serious about being called Irene and John," Dawson said. "We like our names and that it's real. Grandpa, Grandma, Granny, Nanna, Gramps, etc., give off a vision of being old."

Oh puh-leeze. Will these folks ever admit they've aged? Does a name turn us into Granny Clampett (that's her at left)?

So tell me grandparents, and grandchildren. What do you think of this Glam-Ma trend? I mean, sure today's  grandparents don't look or act like the bingo-playing grandparents of a generation ago, but do we have to call them Doodad and Napa to spare their egos?
