Your Child's Coach: Baffled beyond imagination at fan behavior
Once again, my league is dealing with an issue better described in only the vaguest terms. Trust me when I tell you (having investigated it in great depth) that no child did anything wrong at the U-12 game in question. Trust me, also, when I tell you that numerous adults and teenage siblings behaved like hooligans. I am proud of our league president, who is taking swift and decisive action to prevent a recurrence. And, before I start hearing from the "sports are terrible" crowd, I will repeat: The kids did nothing wrong. It was the adults who have me thinking, "Let's ban all parents from the games!"
Here's the best part: Since the game ended 20 minutes early because of the sideline disturbances, more than one parent has asked me, "Will it count?" What a question. If you ask me, league standings are the last thing these people should be worried about.
Another statement that had me saying OMG (worse, but I'm trying to keep it clean): "The trouble is that those people are from Argentina and think they are the best." OMG, OMG, OMG.
They call soccer "the beautiful sport." But fans sure can get ugly.
