Whoa, Momma!

Your child's coach

This is me coaching soccer, a sport about which I know embarrasingly little. Marlene_2

That's Timmy taking a corner kick. Timmy landed on my roster when his friend needed a carpool and it was like Christmas and the lottery rolled into one. He scored 25 game goals and took us to two championships. Timmys_corner_kick

This is Tony Rivera, president of the Plantation Youth Soccer Leage.Tony_2 You can almost say Tony lives at the soccer field, as his house backs up to a trail leading to the park. He works for Tampa Parks and Rec. He's a coach who will high-five a kid who scored in his own goal, or draft a player with leg braces. I've seen him do both. He comes from a huge family that includes a lot of our kids, coaches and referees. Refs_for_blog_2

We think we have a great little neighborhood program, even though the police get involved once in a while. Sound familiar?

I'll be coming back to this spot as our fall season gets under way with posts about good and bad coaching, good and bad parenting and the crazy things that happen when hopes, dreams and ego come together under the Tampa sun. I'll put out some advice, which you can feel free to contradict, because you know what they say about opinions, everybody has one.

Until next time -- don't forget that water bottle!
