Pledge to see Waiting for 'Superman' this fall; five children in need get free books
A lot of movie marketing gimmicks make my skin crawl. This promotion for the Davis Guggenheim's upcoming documentary Waiting for 'Superman' replaces that discomfort with feel-good goosebumps.
Guggenheim is the Academy Award winning director of the eco-doc An Inconvenient Truth that urged everyone to take better care of our environment. Waiting for 'Superman' tackles an even more frustrating subject: How the U.S. education system is failing our children.
Take a look at the preview posted above to get the general ideas Guggenheim adresses. Then visit the film's website and make a pledge that you'll see it in theaters when it debuts later this year. (No release date has been announced.) You don't need to buy anything, just provide your e-mail address, date of birth and zip code.
From there, the Gates Foundation will donate five books to children in need for every pledge received. Yes, it's those Gates -- Bill and Melinda, who can certainly afford the donations. Just a few minutes of your time; maybe a better lifetime for the kids being helped.
Oh, and the movie looks pretty good, too.
