Conflicts in books and the news

Many books focus on young people encountering conflicts in their lives and communities. Discuss conflicts you face – in your community or at home – with your class and family. Look for an article in the e-Edition of the St. Petersburg Times or a blog or article on tampabay.com that focuses on an issue or concern that affects children or teens in the community. Read the article or posting carefully. Think about the purpose of the author and the main idea of the writing. Explain what the main points of the article are in a summary. Be sure to include the following information: the main points, the author’s purpose, the details that support the author’s purpose and key words that indicate the author’s purpose. Share the article or blog with your class and family. Share your thoughts about what you learned here on the NIE Blogging Zone.
