Have you noticed the moniker R136a1 scrolling across headers and trending tabs on Google and Yahoo and wondered what on Earth it was people were searching? Turns out it’s not anything on Earth at all, but the name of a new star recently discovered to be the largest ever, located in the Tarantula Nebula galaxy. R136a1 is hundreds of times heavier than the sun, 10 million times brighter than the sun, seven times hotter than the sun, and probably a couple of million years old.
