A drug is any non-food substance that when put into the body changes the way the body or mind works. Physicians may prescribe legal drugs. Over-the-counter drugs may be purchased at drug stores or other retail stores. Newspapers, the Internet and television frequently contain advertising for legal drugs. Monitor the St. Petersburg Times, tbt* and your favorite television station for a week. In your journal, write down each time you see an advertisement for a prescription or over-the-counter drug. As a consumer, do you think you are being bombarded with these images? What is the message that is being conveyed in these advertisements?
