Celebrating King Day

Reflecting on Dr. King's words

As we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. day, it is a good time to reflect on some of the principles in which King believed. Here are three quotes from his speeches:

  • "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
  • "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
  • "Life's most persistant and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?"

Think about what these quotes mean. Look for articles in this week's St. Petersburg Times that depict people whose actions represent the messages in these quotes. Share your thoughts about the quotes and articles you find in the newspaper here on the NIE Blogging Zone.
