Grouper ban
The numbers are in, and they are low. Estimates for the population of gag grouper residing in the Gulf of Mexico are low enough to prompt the federal government to place a temporary ban on fishing for their species this upcoming season. Opinions among fishermen are mixed. Some think the population estimates are wrong, some think the fish moved away because of red tide, others think the numbers have dwindled due to commercial overfishing. Read the article, "Gulf ban on gag grouper ordered," on page 1B of the October 19 edition of the Times and let us know what you think. How will the ban affect you and your family?
