Look it up
When you study new things and read new books, you come up against some tough vocabulary words! Most vocabulary words are learned from context clues or good old-fashioned dictionary work. While you read your summer reading books and the St. Petersburg Times every day, be sure to highlight or circle words you don’t know. Try to figure out their meanings by looking for clues in the sentences around these unknown words. Write down your best guess, and then look the words up in a dictionary. Use the e-Edition of the St. Petersburg Times to search for articles using these words. Make a chart showing how often these words were used in today’s Times. Be sure to take the vocabulary quiz featured on the NIE Web site.
