The picture on the front page of today’s St. Petersburg Times shows a blackened pelican trying to take flight in a Louisiana marsh. The pelican is covered in oil and most likely too heavy to fly. Some of these oil-slicked birds have been brought to Tampa Bay for medical treatment and release, as shown in a picture on page 6A. Read :We’re under attack here” on page 1A. The Governor of Louisiana is saying that not enough is being done to protect marshes from the incoming oil, and birds and other wildlife are suffering. Is this what is headed for Florida?
