Price optioned to minors
Top draft pick LHP David Price was optioned to the minor leagues by the Rays after Tuesday's game. Price pitched twice this spring and was "very impressive," manager Joe Maddon said, but it was time for him to get regular work in minor-league camp to prepare for the season. The Rays did not say which minor-league club he would be assigned to, but advanced Class A Vero Beach seems most likely.
RHP Jae Kuk Ryu and OF Justin Ruggiano were also optioned to the minors. The Ruggiano move was somewhat surprising since the Rays may need an outfielder to replace Rocco Baldelli, but Maddon said left-handed hitters Jon Weber and John Rodriguez, both minor-league veterans, might be better fits for reserve duty than a prospect such as Ruggiano.
The Rays' spring roster now stands at 47.
