Rays and Reds warmed up

Update 4:08: Rays lose 6-4, and Maddon wasn't particularly happy with Edwin Jackson's performance during the six-run second, or the team's overall sloppy play.

Update 3:46: Bottom of the ninth, Rays still down 6-4. Headed down to talk to Joe Maddon, who is available as soon as the game ends so it'll be a while for the final update.

Update 3:30 Edwin Jackson wasn't too down about his rough outing, talking about how he made the necessary adjustments to finish strong. The Rays are trying to rally in the bottom of the eighth, with hits by Evan Longoria and Eric Hinske cutting the score to 6-4. That's as close as they got in the eighth.

Update 2:52: The Rays have cut the lead to 6-3 and got a solid inning of relief from Dan Wheeler.

Update 2:32 Jackson allowed seven hits and six runs (five earned) in his four innings. Troy Percival is in for the Rays, and just worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning. And that's the day after his brilliant prank on top draft pick David Price, who returned from his pro debut on Saturday to find his BMW turned into a Troy-ota, with a large decal of Percival's place plastered on the hood.

Update 2:14 Edwin Jackson is coming out for a fourth inning, with the Reds leading 6-1.

Update 1:45 So much for Jackson's good start. His second inning was an absolute mess as he allowed six hits and two walks, and the Rays made a pair of errors behind him as the Reds have scored six runs.

Update 1:25 The Rays loaded the bases on singles by Eliot Johnson - yes, him - and Ben Zobrist and a walk by B.J. Upton, but got nothing out of it as Jonny Gomes grounded into a 1-2-3 double play and Cliff Floyd struck out. Jackson continues to look good in his bid to hold on to a spot in the rotation - though he always has good springs in seem - with a quick first inning.

It's a big day for INF Elliot Johnson, who was on the backpage of New York's three main tabloids Sunday morning and in the starting lineup Sunday afternoon for the game against the Reds. See the previous blog post for the latest on the Yanks-Rays situation. As for Sunday's game - it's underway with Edwin Jackson on the mound.
