Crawford non-update
Nothing yet from the Rays on the status of LF Carl Crawford, who was to be examined today in St. Petersburg by hand specialist Dr. Doug Carlan.
There should be an update by early evening, as well as news on how he Rays will replace him however long he's out, which could be the rest of the season.
If the Rays make a trade, it's going to have to be for a player who has cleared waivers. Among the possibilities - and this is an inexact science - of players who could be available: Andruw Jones, Randy Winn, Jose Guillen, Dave Roberts, Juan Pierre, Mark Kotsay and Emil Brown. Gary Sheffield could also be in that pool.
