Celebration for the Tampa Bay Rays at the Pier

ST. PETERSBURG -- The three local rappers behind the Tampa Bay Rays' It's Our Season song will perform at the Pier tonight in honor of the team making it to the World Series.

James "Bay Boi" Peoples, 20, Davie "Big Gill" Gill, 31, and Herman "Cristol" Grant, 27, will join other live music acts in a party hosted by the city.

The festivities start at 5:30 p.m., with a rally, games, free Mohawks and face painting. Raymond the mascot will be there, and the city will show video clips of the season. The event is free and open to the public and will last until 9 p.m. No word yet on whether any players will be there.

The fun continues Tuesday, when the 2008 World Series Trophy will be on display at City Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

City officials have already started to put together a celebration in case the Rays win the World Series. Spokeswoman Beth Herendeen was pretty tight-lipped about the details. She said the city asked the past five World Series winners about how to prepare for a celebration and have been placing acts on stand-by.

"We are planning accordingly," she said. "We can't talk about it yet. We don't want to jinx it."
