Rays pause, relax for a day
After celebrating their Division Series win over the White Sox on Monday, the Rays took Tuesday off and will get back to work on Wednesday with an afternoon workout at the Trop in preparation for Friday's start of the AL Championship Series.
The Red Sox also took the day off, and will workout in Boston on Wednesday then fly down and workout on Thursday at the Trop. The Rays will also work out Thursday, and both teams will participate in press conferences.
Rays officials will debate whether to change their 25-man roster for the best-of-seven next round, with a switch from 10 pitchers to 11 the mostly likely possibility. If they do, either RHP Troy Percival or Edwin Jackson could be added. There is also a possibility backup C Shawn Riggans could return.
RHP James Shields and LHP Scott Kazmir are lined up to pitch the first two games, as they did in the division series, but manager Joe Maddon said he wanted to talk with the pitchers on Wednesday before making any announcements.
