Rays closer Percival set for Tuesday surgery
Rays closer Troy Percival will have surgery Tuesday on his troublesome back but is expected to be ready for opening day.
Percival, 39, had three stints on the disabled list last season for various injuries and missed time in September to receive shots to relieve his back trouble.
Percival, who is signed for $4-million for 2009, led the Rays with 28 saves but was left off the postseason roster in all three rounds.
He will have the surgery done by specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in California and if all goes well is expected to be throwing off a mound by early March.
