Friday on the field
The team heads in after the Rays spring training workout in Port Charlotte on Friday. [Brian Cassella, Times]
It's a bit chilly this morning as the Rays head out for Friday's workout, with plans for a series of defensive and pop-up drills, and another day of players taking BP off the coaches. On Saturday, they'll hit live off the pitchers.
Before going on the field they went through photo day, going throuhg a line for news and photo agencies to get head shots and baseball card companies to get posed shots. In another reflection of the economy, there were only about eight stations, down from the usual dozen or more.
RHP Andy Sonnanstine had some fun doing a few of his shots swinging a bat. Why? "C'mon,'' he said. "Because I'm a .400 career hitter.''
