Burrell at the top, starts with a bang

APRIL 04, 2009

UPDATE, 1:08: Burrell got a nice, though brief, ovation from the crowd, took three pitches and then crushed a 1-2 pitch from Cole Hamels over the leftfield fence, and got a bigger cheer. Burrell, as scheduled, was then done for the day, replaced in rightfield by Zobrist. Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer off the rightfield foul pole later in the inning.

Manager Joe Maddon has a surprise for the Phillies fans today - Pat Burrell batting leadoff. Burrell is listed as playing rightfield, but won't take the field, replaced by Ben Zobrist.
