Rays in the pink
Rays players will swing pink bats and sport pink ribbons on their jersey and Phiten magnetic necklaces for Sunday's Mother's Day game, and now some also will get to wear cleats with pink stripes.
There was some controversy over the Reebok cleats on Saturday afternoon. After planning for days to wear them, the Rays were told MLB had quashed the idea because the proceeds from the planned auction were not going to an MLB-sanctioned charity. A Reebok rep took the cleats from their lockers.
Reliever Joe Nelson was among the more concerned players and he made a call to a union rep, and after some quick consultation and negotiation, it was decided the players could go ahead and wear them, and the details would get worked out.
