Burrell back, Joyce out

After Thursday's game, the Rays activated Pat Burrell from the disabled list. Matt Joyce was sent down to Triple A.

Manager Joe Maddon said Burrell reported that he felt good after a rehab game at Port Charlotte. He said they like what Joyce did and that "his time will come" when he becomes a "really good major-league player."

Joyce, who was in his second stint with the Rays this season, was disappointed, but eager to show he's ready to come back up again.

“Any time you get sent down, it’s not a good feeling,” Joyce said. “So you just go back to the drawing board, go back down and scratch and claw your way back up.”

“Joyce hit .238 (5-for-21) in his latest eight-game stint, starting off strong with homers in back-to-back games, but then "fizzled out" afterward, going 0-for-15 and then sitting out the last couple games.

“His plan is to just "tear it up again" in Durham, and "force them to bring you back up."

“"The big thing with Joe is, working on (my) defense, the whole game, not just hitting," Joyce said. "I had a couple games where I wasn't comfortable in the outfifeld...Some ups and downs. The game is a roller-coaster sometimes, I had good games, bad games, was just trying to be consistent."
