Isringhausen MRI reveals tear; done for season
The injury to RHP Jason Isringhausen's surgically-repaired right elbow didn't look good when it happened.
And an MRI Monday revealed the bad news, as it appears the veteran reliever is done for the season.
The Rays say Isringhausen has suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament, and will undergo Tommy John surgery at some point, at a date to be determined later.
Whether Isringhausen, 36, has thrown the last pitch of his career, it remains to be seen, but it's entirely possible. The two-time All Star had rehabbed all spring since signing with the Rays to come back from an elbow surgery that ended his season last year with the Cardinals.
The Rays had placed Isringhausen on the 60-day disabled list Sunday. He felt pain Saturday in the ninth inning after sailing a pitch far wide of catcher Michel Hernandez. Isringhausen immediately waved to the dugout for help, and walked right into the clubhouse.
He hasn't been available for comment since the injury.
