Tampa Bay Rays Akinori Iwamura could be back this season

Tampa Bay Rays 2B Akinori Iwamura could be back in 6-8 weeks as he had only a partial tear of the ACL in his left knee. He was originally diagnosed with a full tear and considered out for the rest of the season. Rays orthopedist Dr. Koco Eaton performed surgery Monday and was able to repair the partial tear, as well a torn meniscus, in an arthroscopic procedure rather than reconstructive surgery as planned. Iwamura was injured May 24 when Florida's Chris Coghlan slid hard into him on a play at second. Iwamura is in the final year of his contract, with the Rays holding a 2010 option.
