Balfour placed on bereavement list; Jaso called up
The Rays will have some extra insurance for C Dioner Navarro after all.
RHP Grant Balfour was placed on the bereavement list, as he's flying to Australia today to be with his family due to the death of his grandfather. He is expected to be back Friday when the Rays start the second half in Kansas City.
C John Jaso has been called up from Triple-A Durham. He'll provide some insurance in case Navarro, who was hospitalized Saturday night after getting hit in the mask with a foul ball.
Both the Rays and agent Kendall Almerico said Navarro shouldn't go on the DL, but Jaso being here helps just in case for the time being.
