Tampa Bay Rays All-Stars set ... to be announced
The Tampa Bay Rays players who have been elected and selected to meet manager Joe Maddon and staff in St. Louis for the July 14 All-Star Game will be announced later this afternoon.
3B Evan Longoria is considered a sure thing as he has had a hefty lead over the Yankees Alex Rodriguez to be the fans' choice as the starter, and has been battling Yankees SS Derek Jeter for the overall AL lead.
LF Carl Crawford and SS Jason Bartlett appear the most likely candidates to join Longoria, with INF/OF Ben Zobrist and LHP J.P. Howell the other top possibilities.
Maddon said Saturday in Arlington, Texas, he was "satisfied" with the Rays' representation on the team, which will include 32 members when announced today, with a 33rd to be chosen from five candidates in Internet voting over the next five days.
The teams will be announced during the selection show on TBS starting at 1 p.m. Maddon will appear on the show from the team hotel in Texas.
