For starters, Rays vs Orioles without Carlos Pena

Update: 6:09 p.m. Manager Joe Maddon gave his reasoning for Carlos Pena being out of the lineup, and it's two fold; one its a way to get Willy Aybar in the lineup. And it's also due to the fact Orioles lefty Brian Matusz can be tough on lefties, including his M.O. in the minor leagues (so that's a good moment to pop in the switch hitting Aybar).

Here are Matusz's splits - vs lefties (0-for-5, 4Ks), vs righties (24-55, .436, three homers, seven walks)

The Rays will try to complete a three-game sweep of the last-place Orioles tonight, and they'll do so without first baseman Carlos Pena in the lineup.

It could be just a day off for Pena, with a big three-game series looming with the Rangers starting Friday at the Trop.

Right-hander James Shields will get the start for the Rays.
