Tampa Bay Rays RHP James Shields no-hit bid ends in eighth

Rays RHP James Shields carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Royals, but it was snapped when Royals C John Buck slapped a single to rightfield, a soft liner that bounced a few feet in front of Gabe Gross.

Shields had been nearly perfect for the first seven innings, with just three walks.

He received a standing ovation from the crowd before his next pitch.
