Tigers Rodney suspended 3 games for throwing ball into Trop press box

UPDATE, 4:06: Rodney has appealed according to the Tigers so the suspension won't start until after a hearing.

UPDATE, 12:06: It's official, three games and an undisclosed fine. Starts tonight in K.C. unless he appeals.

DEVELOPING: Tigers closer Fernando Rodney is expected to be suspended three games by MLB for throwing a ball into the Tropicana Field press box after the final out of Friday's game.

Rodney said later he was acting on emotion when he threw the ball from the field into the press box, where several reporters were working. No one was hurt.

Detroit manager Jim Leyland said after Friday's game and again Saturday he did not consider it a big deal. MLB officials felt otherwise and will announce the discipline later today.
