Live from Indy: Thursday morning edition, Soriano deal set

UPDATE, 10:15: The deal is completed in terms of agreement between the teams, but won't be official until this afternoon assuming Soriano passes the Rays medical review. The Rays pay the full amount of whatever salary they negotiate (or reach through arbitration) with Soriano, and the Braves get RHP Jesse Chavez. The Rays may want to negotiate Soriano's salary before completing the deal, and Soriano has to formally approve the trade.

DEVELOPING: No official word yet on completion of the Rays trade with Atlanta to get closer Rafael Soriano - though there probably wouldn't be until late in the day as his medical records have to be reviewed, negotiations have to be concluded and Rays officials are traveling back to Florida. More importantly, there's no word or reason to think it won't go through yet.

The news of the morning will be the Rule 5 draft of unprotected minor leaguers. The Rays have the No. 16 pick and could move up for the right player; they could lose a couple pitchers such as RHP Aneury Rodriguez and RHP Paul Phillips.
