The Rays added to their infield depth by claiming Micah Johnson off waivers from the Giants.
Johnson, 26, has big league time with the White Sox, Dodgers and Braves, though totaling just 36 games, hitting .224 with a .550 OPS. He was previously claimed this offseason by the Reds and Giants.
Johnson is a lefthanded hitter who plays second base, potentially giving the Rays an option if they shift Brad Miller to another position or trade him, or if he has a setback in recovering from core muscle repair surgery.
In adding Johnson, the Rays have filled their 40-man roster.
