Rays RHP Jake Faria will be presented his Tampa Bay BBWAA Outstanding Rookie Award at the Ted Williams Museum Hitters Hall of Fame event Saturday night in Clearwater.
Faria was voted the award after his impressive debut season, going 5-4, 3.43 in 16 games (14 starts) following an unexpected June call-up, and ended up winning his first four decisions and going seven starts without a loss.
Faria was one of three Rays honored at the end of the season by the Tampa Bay chapter of the BBWAA; OF Steven Souza Jr. was voted the Don Zimmer team MVP award and RHP Alex Cobb, currently a free agent, won the Champion Award, given to the player who best exemplifies the spirit of true professionalism on and off the field.
Honorees at the dinner at Spectrum Field include Dick Allen, Ron Guidry, Charlie Manuel, Tony Perez and J.R. Richard. Autograph signees include Hall of Famers Wade Boggs, Steve Carlton, Andre Dawson and Perez. The Night at the Ballpark event is hosted by Rays CF Kevin Kiermaier.
Limited tickets remain and are $125, available via raysbaseball.com or calling (727) 534-5343; see tedwilliamsmusuem.com for more information.
