UPDATE, 4:11: The Rays also told LHP Jonny Venters he won't make the team, though he can be reassigned to the minors. If another team calls with a big-league opportunity the Rays would be  likely to make a deal.

DEVELOPING:  The made a series of moves before Sunday's game to reduce their roster essentially to 27 on Sunday.

Here is a quick rundown:

* Veteran relievers Daniel Hudson and Dan Jennings were told they won't make the team, with resolution expected in 24-48 hours. Hudson, acquired from the Pirates in the Corey Dickerson trade, makes $5.5M, Jennings $2.375M. Jennings can be released for 1/4 of his salary as termination pay.

* RHPs Yonny Chirinos and Andrew Kittredge and LHP Ryan Yarbrough were told they made the team as multi-inning relievers, with RHP Austin Pruitt optioned to Triple-A.

* C Curt Casali was told, as expected, he will be reassigned to minors on Tuesday.

* The moves leave the Rays with 28 players in camp, though with RHP Jose De Leon heading to DL. So that leaves veteran LH Jonny Venters at least in limbo if not still in bullpen mix, and Brandon Snyder and Johnny Field still competing for last outfield spot, with the potential they bring in an outside candidate.
