Tampa Bay Rays

Marc Topkin’s takeaways from Rays 2-1 Monday win over Royals

Marc Topkin's takeaways from Rays 2-1 Monday win over Royals:

* LHP Ryan Yarbrough doesn't have the overpowering stuff of teammate Blake Snell or prospect Anthony Banda, but he has a knack for making pitches when he has to. He showed that again Monday, wriggling out of trouble during his five-inning stint.

* 3B Matt Duffy can stay hot for a while.  Duffy had three hits and drove in both runs for the Rays. In 14 games since coming off the DL Duffy is hitting .379 (22-for-58) with seven RBIs., and has been getting more comfortable in the field.

* The weather forecasters were fortunately wrong. Rain was forecast to start around game time and get heavier, to the point there was even chatter among Rays people about when the makeup doubleheader would be played. But there wasn't any real wet stuff until the ninth.
