Tampa Bay Rays

Marc Topkin’s takeaways from the Rays’ 6-5 victory at Kansas City Tuesday

* Though officially precautionary, it would certainly seem concerning that 3B Matt Duffy had to leave the game with right hamstring tightness, the same issue that put him on the DL earlier this season. Even more so because he'd been hot.

* The Rays had to be pleased with their first look at LHP Anthony Banda, the most advanced of four prospects they got for Steven Souza Jr. He was effective and efficient, throwing only 52 pitches over innings with 7- and 5-pitch frames.

* Sending nine men to the plate in the first against Royals starter Ian Kennedy, rapping four hits (including a two-run C.J. Cron homer) and drawing two walks should have led to more than three runs, and that came back to haunt as usual.
