Archer's literal sense of fashion

These Rays items didn't make web edition today:

Cover boy
Most T-shirts players wear around the clubhouse represent either the team or a sports equipment/apparel company they are affiliated with. But RHP Chris Archer’s wardrobe proudly includes a purple tee featuring the original cover of The Great Gatsby book. “Best shirt I own,” Archer said. “I wish I had a shirt for every book I’ve read. Because I feel like the clothes you wear are an expression of who you are.”

Numbers game
Coincidence? You decide. Playing on Friday the 13th, all three relievers the Rays used threw exactly 13 pitches. And, taking it a step further, starter Chris Archer threw 87 — 13 shy of 100. “Thirteens across?” manager Joe Maddon said. “Maybe 13 is our lucky number.” … Three wasn’t lucky Friday, as the Rays had men on first and third with no outs, and the inning was over within a span of three pitches as Ben Zobrist popped up a bunt into a double play and David DeJesus got picked off first. “That’s incredible,” Maddon said. “That’s just par for the recent course.”
