Beckham may be on the way

The Rays are considering calling up INF Tim Beckham, the No. 1 pick of the 2008 draft, who had a solid season for Triple-A Durham this year.

Beckham, 23, hit .276 for the Bulls with four homers and 51 RBIs in 122 games this season, then .290 in seven playoff games.

The Rays could use another right-hand hitting middle infielder and pinch-runner, plus the experience could be beneficial for Beckham's development.

Though Durham is playing one more game Tuesday in the Triple-A national championship against Omaha (Royals), Beckham could be up as soon as Monday.

After Durham is done, the Rays may add RHP Jake Odorizzi, who is likely to start Tuesday, and reliever LHP Jeff Beliveau.
