Beliveau recalled, Ramos on paternity leave
LHP Jeff Beliveau didn't get far, called back up to the Rays on Friday after being optioned to Triple-A on Thursday.
The shuffle was likely to happen anyway as LHP Cesar Ramos planned to leave the team no later than after Saturday's game to head back to St. Petersburg to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.
But it was expedited after Ramos worked 3 1/3 innings Thursday in relief of LHP Erik Bedard. With Ramos thus unavailable to pitch Friday and probably Saturday anyway, it worked out better for the Rays to have him take paternity leave a day early, allowing them to add a fresh arm in bringing back Believeau, who had been called up Tuesday.
Normally an optioned player has to spend 10 days back in the minors unless there is an injury, but that rule is waived in paternity list cases.
