Burst Pass program expanded, includes 12 % cash bonus

The Rays announced this morning they have expanded the Burst Pass program for season ticket holders, allowing the stored value card to be used in place of a game ticket and offering a 12 percent cash bonus for money loaded onto the card.

Here is the team release, and a link to a video showing how the card works:

ST. PETERSBURG, FL―The Tampa Bay Rays, in partnership with Fortress US, have significantly expanded their Burst Pass program for the 2013 season.  Improvements to the program include the ability to make purchases using the Burst Pass at all concessions and merchandise stands at Tropicana Field, including all portable carts.

The Rays also announced the creation of Burst Pass Gold.  A new tier of membership offered exclusively to season ticket holders, Burst Pass Gold allows members to not only continue enjoying a 12 percent cash bonus for every dollar loaded on to the card and access to special promotions and discounts throughout the season, but also use their Burst Pass in place of paper tickets for all home Rays games.

To encourage season ticket holders to use their Burst Pass Gold as their game ticket, the Rays are offering an exciting array of rewards and prizes.  Every fifth time a season ticket holder uses their Burst Pass as their game ticket they will automatically receive a voucher on their Burst Pass for a free hot dog, soda or popcorn.  In addition, each time they use their Burst Pass as their game ticket, season ticket holders will be automatically entered to win prizes awarded at every home Rays game.  These prizes include a luxury suite package, pre-game field passes during batting practice, the opportunity to throw out the first pitch before a Rays game, and autographed and authentic game-used items.  Season ticket holders who use the Burst Pass repeatedly as their game ticket throughout the season will also qualify for special Burst Pass VIP Awards, such as a $100 gift certificate to the Rays Authentics Gameday Memorabilia store and other unique prizes

For the first time, the Rays will also offer fan club members access to the Burst Pass program.  Burst Pass Blue will be provide members with a 5 percent cash bonus for every dollar loaded on to the card and access to some, but not all, of the same promotions and discounts offered to Gold members throughout the season.  Burst Pass Blue members will not be able to use their cards as their game ticket in 2013.

“We’re excited to introduce the Burst Pass program to fan club members and to give our season ticket holders even more reason to use their Burst Pass this year,” said Rays Senior Vice President of Development and Business Affairs Michael Kalt. “They receive tremendous added value by using their Burst Pass while we are able to better understand their needs and provide them with the highest level of service.”

When the Rays created the Burst Pass program in 2012, they became the first team in Major League Baseball to offer a stored value program via the Fortress platform.  The Burst Pass is a radio-frequency (RF) enabled stored value card that uses encrypted chip technology to complete transactions and share data. This “contactless” technology results in transactions times much faster than cards utilizing a typical magnetic stripe.
