For (2009) openers, Red Sox
The Rays don't know where or when they will finish this season. But they know where they will start next year's, at Fenway Park in Boston on April 6.
The Rays' home opener - when they hope to have a banner to raise - is April 13 against the Yankees.
The Rays will make interleague trips to play the Marlins, Mets and Rockies, and they will host the Marlins, Nationals and Phillies. The Denver-New York trip is June 16-22, as the Rays get to play in both new stadiums in New York.
Among the more difficult aspects of the schedule: a nine game early-season trip to Seattle, Oakland and Minnesota April 21-29, a second-half opening 10-game trip to Kansas City, Chicago and Toronto July 17-26, and a tough 10-game September swing to New York, Boston and Baltimore Sept. 7-17.
The Rays once again got no help from MLB in terms of attracting larger crowds at home, with only one of their three series against the Red Sox on a weekend, April 30-May 3, and one against the Yankees, Oct. 2-4, in the last series of the season.
